THE UK AUTISM FOUNDATION
The UK Autism Foundation is a new autism charity for a new generation It was launched at a community dinner and auction in Woodford Green, Essex. The charity came from the work of the Autism Awareness Campaign UK founded by autism campaigners Ivan and Charika Corea in 2000.The campaign has the support of the Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Leader of the Opposition David Cameron and Leader of the Liberal Democrats Nick Clegg. Support also came from the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.
UKAF is specifically lobbying and campaigning on behalf of families with auutism who are below the poverty line.

Recently over 200 MPs of all parties signed three early day motions backing the campaign.

The UK Autism Foundation has three important long term strands to the 'Vision for Autism''  to:
  • We hope to build the first ever state-of-the-art AUTISM CENTRE in London - based in the London Borough of Redbridge.
  • At some stage we hope to build an AUTISM SCHOOL (secondary to further education) to service the needs of children with autism from Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Haringey, Havering ,Newham, Waltham Forest, Redbridge and West Essex.
  • To launch initiatives to help the poor - to build up a fund in order to give grants to families with autism who are below the poverty line - for holidays and independent assessments.
The Patron of the UK Autism Foundation is Lee Scott MP who has championed the cause of autism and Asperger's Syndrome, in the House of Commons in the Palace of Westminster.
