The Shadow International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell MP of the Conservative Party has written to Ivan Corea, Co-Founder of Autism Sunday after he made the call for Her Majesty's Government to re-build the Autism Clinic in Haiti. The call was made at the London Service for Autism Sunday at All Saint's Church in Woodford Wells on the 14th of February 2010 - hundreds attended the service.
Andrew Mitchell MP said: 'You have made a very important point and I will bear it in mind. Haiti has faded from the front pages but the humanitarian situation remains acute and urgent. In the coming weeks and months, the Haitian people and their government will have to establish their priorities for their country's future. As you suggest the challenges will be particularly hard for people with disabilities.'
The Shadow Secretary of State for International Development has tabled a written Parliamentary Question asking what assessment the Government has made of the autism needs of the Haitian population and whether there are any plans for the UK Government or international partners to rebuild the autism clinic.
Ivan Corea thanked Andrew Mitchell for his intervention. Autism campaigners are calling on Her Majesty's Government to rebuild the Autism Clinic in Haiti and reach out to people with disabilities who have suffered so much. Haiti is one of the poorest nations on earth.
